An affirmation is a positive statement, which you state clearly to yourself. It acts like an oath to yourself, or if you like a clear statement to clarify something within you.
A positive statement serves as a reminder to ourselves. It serves, by way of you are as you believe you are.
Affirmations are generally short and concise. Sometimes they rhyme, sometimes they don’t. You can use pre-scripted affirmations or make up your own.
The power of an affirmation can be life changing.
Affirmations can be on any subject, but the key is that they are completely positive in nature. They should not contain the words, Don’t, Can’t, Won’t, Will Not or any other word which would normally be used in a negative sense. They should carry positivity and hope and use words such as I am, I can, I will, I shall.
Some people like to make their affirmations whilst looking at themselves in the mirror. You do not NEED to look at yourself whilst stating your affirmations, the most important factor is to feel uplifted and speak with complete trust.
You can state a positive statement once or many times over, normally until you feel it to be so.
Positive Statement you can use daily:
- I am healthy.
- I am grateful for the life I lead.
- My life is easy and filled with joy.
- I am relaxed and full of peace.
- I am loved.
- I am filled with love and joy.
- I love and accept myself as I am.
- I know that my healing is in progress.
- I easily make choices that are good for me.
- I am healthy, wealthy and wise.
- I attract only loving people into my life.
- I forgive all those who need my forgiveness.
- I forgive myself.
- Abundance is mine.
Affirmations can be self orientated or outwardly orientated.
- I am loved for who I am
- I love myself for who I am.
A positive statement is always stated in the present tense. Even if you don’t feel 100% first thing in the morning, it is better to say “I am having a great day today” instead of “I will have a great day”.
Feeling the affirmation.
Above all, when you state them you should feel the positive feelings of the statement. You should feel your total belief in the statement.
“I am happy” will not assist your happiness if you are feeling despondent and hopeless at the prospect of feeling happiness when you state it.
If you are struggling to believe your affirmation, you must choose to alter your image of NOW. It can be very difficult to believe the statement “I am healthy” when you have a pounding headache. So do try to find words that you can feel, that you can trust in and that you can believe in.
- I am releasing the issues which caused this headache.
- My pain has served to remind me of my issue. My issue will now resolve.
Letting it go.
Once you have felt the affirmation, and stated it. It is equally important to ‘let it go’. If we are constantly repeating the affirmation every 5 minutes, yet we are not truly believing it then we may need to adjust the affirmation. Whilst it is ok to start each day with the same affirmations, and it is ok to re-affirm before a meeting or event. It is equally important to trust it, so that you do not become dependent on your affirmations.
How affirmations work
Affirmations work on the belief that your physical reality is directly related to your core thoughts and beliefs. Like attracts Like.
Every one of us emits energetic vibrations with every thought and feeling. By removing an unwanted feeling or belief system, we can change the energy which we are sending out, thus by return like attracts like, we get what we believe.
Affirmations also work by helping you to create more healthy habits and a better sense of self worth. So, regardless whether or not you believe the energetic theory, if you are reminding yourself of your self worth, you will start to feel more self worth.
The person that complains about everything, is more likely to find things to complain about. The person that starts to find the good in everything, is less likely to find things to complain about.
You have to feel different to be different.
